Day 24: Charity…

734659_4306992279003_469459096_n

Today I am grateful for charity! I am blessed that there are organizations out there that their sole purpose is to raise money, awareness, and educate those on issues and diseases that plague our lives. Specifically I am referring to the National Kidney Foundation. I am grateful for their yearly Kidney Walks that allow people to come together for one purpose and once cause. In fact this will be the second year that my family, friends, and I are walking in the Dallas Kidney Walk. I am blessed that we (Team Ur-Ine Trouble) were able to raise $1,400.00 for the National Kidney Foundation. My hope is that this years team is just as successful if not more! I am thankful for all my friends and family that were so generous with their time, money, and donations, they will never know how much what they did last year, and will do this year means to me!!!!

Day 23: My Mom…

IMAG2199

Today I am grateful and most blessed to have my mom in my life. I am thankful that I had the opportunity to spend the day with her, and especially for such a momentous day.

Here is a little about my mom…Rhonda, born in September of 53 is a rare gem. She is a what you see, is what you get Loud N Proud Carolina Girl! She doesn’t believe in bs’ing anyone…if she thinks it, you WILL hear it! She is loving, affectionate, and passionate about her beliefs and values. She has always believed in living life to the fullest, being happy with the cards you are dealt, and doing so without regret. She is strong, courageous, and fiercely loyal. She loves openly and selflessly. She is kind and generous, granted she is ferociously protective of what she deems “HERS” and will kick your ass if you mess with it!! My mom has always been colorful, vibrant, and brazen…its part of her charm. She is a member of the Red Hat Society. (which fits her personality…) She has worked in retail, accounting, manufacturing, management, she has been a florist, a seamstress…and drove long distance OTR Trucks for a living. She knows how to have a great time, she has loved many, been married a few times..but finally settled on the true love of her life, Ed Dowdy!  I think she would tell you that her greatest title of course is MOM and NANNY! To hear her tell it, her children (myself and my sister Liza) and the grand-kids (my two and my sisters three..) are what keeps her going in life, we all are pure unabashed joy her eyes.

There is more to my mom, granted we all don’t dwell on it, but its a part of her life that we all know and have accepted. My mom has CKD, (chronic kidney disease..) she suffered from renal failure and had to go on Kidney Dialysis. This June will be two years she has been a dialysis patient. Granted, she will tell you straight-up, this does not define her, but is a necessary part of her life.

IMAG2209In addition to just being grateful for her in general, I am thankful that she wanted me to come along today to her appointment. Today was a big day for her and those she loves. A while back, after she met the weight and BMI qualifications, she finally decided to do the paperwork in order to get on the Kidney Transplant List. TODAY was STEP 1 on that journey! Today we went to TRANSPLANT 101! This is where the process begins…this is where HOPE begins…this is where FAITH begins!!

I am grateful for my mom, the time we spent together today, and for the potential opportunity to improve the quality of her life! I LOVE YOU MAMA…A HUNDRED DOLLARS!!
